    <p>Self-esteem is one of the popular constructs in psychological studies, and there have been many studies wherein a meta-analysis of self-esteem research has been conducted. This study focused on research involving cross-temporal meta-analyses, wherein samples who completed the same psychological questionnaires at different points in historical time are located. Oshio et al. (2014) found that mean scores of self-esteem tended to decrease with survey year. Okada et al. (2015) conducted a meta-analysis to examine gender differences in reported self-esteem in Japan, and found that effect size decreased with survey year. This article provides a detailed description of cross-temporal research on self-esteem and discusses the direction of future research on self-esteem from the perspective of historical change.</p>

    Differences in personalities and expectations towards university life were considered between users and non-users of social media services. The results showed that the personalities of social media users showed higher extroversion (sociality). In addition, social media users had higher expectations, such as 「obtaining certifications」, 「having more fulfilling club and circle activities」, 「acquiring knowledge and skills that will be of use at work in the future」, 「to deepen knowledge of fields of interest」, 「expand social experience」, 「to meet many people」 and more. There were also a large number of people who expected to work part time jobs and to participate in circle activities. From these results, a debate was held on the creation of an academic environment that will contribute to the improvement of the undergraduate program utilizing social media.

    This meta-analysis examined gender differences in self-esteem reported in Japanese research studies. The moderating effects of the ages of the participants in the samples, the years when the research studies were conducted, and the types of translation were also examined. Studies that measured self-esteem of Japanese participants, analyzed by gender, using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were searched via a comprehensive literature review. Fifty studies published from 1982 to 2013 were collected. The estimated population effect size (Hedges's <i>g</i>) was .17, indicating that males scored slightly higher in self-esteem than females. Analyses of moderating variables revealed that the effect sizes varied according to the ages of the participants and the years when the research studies were conducted. These findings provide an empirical basis for discussion of gender differences in self-esteem among Japanese people.

    &nbsp;&nbsp;The present study reports a cross-temporal meta-analysis exploring age and survey-year differences in the average scores obtained on Rosenberg&rsquo;s (1965) Self-Esteem Scale in Japan.&nbsp;&nbsp;An examination of refereed journals published in Japan from 1980 to 2013 resulted in the selection of 256 studies involving 48,927 participants.&nbsp;&nbsp;Multiple regression analysis revealed significant effects of both age level and survey year on the average self-esteem scores.&nbsp;&nbsp;The self-esteem scores of junior high and high school students were lower than those of the other age groups, whereas the adults had higher self-esteem scores than did the other age groups.&nbsp;&nbsp;Survey year had a significant negative effect on the average self-esteem scores.&nbsp;&nbsp;The effects of survey year differed by age level.&nbsp;&nbsp;The average self-esteem scores of the junior high and high school students and the adults decreased linearly with survey year, whereas a curvilinear decrease with survey year was found in the college students&rsquo; scores.&nbsp;&nbsp;Several translations of Rosenberg&rsquo;s Self-Esteem Scale are available in Japan.&nbsp;&nbsp;The results of the present study indicated that the number of choices in the scale had an effect on the average self-esteem scores among the junior high, high school, and college students, and also the adults.

    This study examined the practice and function of Program FD, which aims to give substance to educational programs and improve educational issues in Niigata University. Based on the university's framework of four educational target domains, the teaching staff in each educational program implemented Program FD by re-examining the objectives and re-orienting its curriculum map from the perspective of reallocating individual courses. As a result, the teaching staff's common understanding of the objectives was promoted in the course of reallocating and weighting the courses with these objectives. Moreover, the re-orientation of the curriculum map functioned as a framework for rendering the coherence and alignment of the curriculum visible. The results suggest that the use of Program FD may be a concrete approach to supporting continuous curriculum improvement. Finally, we discussed issues relating to the future development of Program FD, which is expected to be implemented in daily educational activities.

    This article examines the practice and function of "Program FD" that aims to give substance to bachelor's degree programs and improve educational issues at Niigata University. On the basis of the university's framework of four educational target areas, each program's teaching staff implemented the practice of Program FD through reexamining the attainment targets of the degree program and recoordinating its curriculum map from the viewpoint of relocation of individual courses. As a result, the common understanding of the attainment targets among the teaching staff was promoted in the course of relocating and weighting the courses with the targets. Moreover, the recoordination of the curriculum map functioned as a framework for making the systemic curriculum alignment visible. The results suggest that the practice of Program FD may become a concrete approach to continuous curriculum improvement. Finally, the article discusses issues left for further development of Program FD that is expected to be implemented in daily educational activities.

    This study developed the Temporal Comparison Orientation Scale and investigated its reliability and validity. Study 1 (<I>N</I>=481) examined the factor structure and correlations with other related scales (self-consciousness scale; revaluation tendency scale; self-esteem scale; depression scale; social comparison orientation scale). The results suggested that the Temporal Comparison Orientation Scale had good reliability and validity. Study 2 examined the relationship between temporal comparison orientation and affect generated by temporal comparisons. The results showed that individuals high in temporal comparison orientation experienced more negative affect after upward and downward comparisons than individuals low in temporal comparison orientation. The possible uses and limitations of the scale were discussed.

    The purpose of this study was to examination of the temporal comparison orientation scale (Namikawa, in press) using Item response theory analysis and to development of the short-form. In Study 1, 934 students complete the temporal comparison orientation scale. Item parameters and test information were estimated by applied Graded Response Model as the IRT model, and short-form of the scale was developed. Items of the short form were selected using the slope and step parameters. In Study 2, reliability and validity of the short-form was examined. One hundred thirty-six students completed the temporal comparison orientation scale and related scales. The results indicate that the short-form had a sufficient reliability and validity. It is suggested that further examination of temporal comparison orientation should be conducted by using the short-form.

  • Temporal Comparison and Social Comparison in Self-Appraisals

    In this paper, we examined the influence of temporal comparison and social comparison in self-appraisals. Participants (n=112) were randomly assigned to either the temporal comparison group or the social comparison group. They were asked to answer the questionnaires i) open-ended self-descriptions and ii) Big-Five scale. It was suggested that temporal comparison was related to positive self-appraisals by the results of statistical analyses to compare between two groups.

    平成26年12月発表の中教審答申は大学入学者選抜制度に抜本的改革を迫っている。具体的には学力の3要素(「知識・技能」「思考力・判断力・表現力等」「主体的に学ぶ態度)のの全てを大学入試で測定する制度を目指すこととなった。令和3年度入試からセンター試験が廃止されて大学入学共通テスト(新共通テスト)が新設され、「国語」「数学Ⅰ・数学A」に記述式問題が導入されることとなった。また、英語4技能の測定を目指して民間の検定試験が導入されることとなった。本研究では主として教育心理学を中心に様々な学問的英智を集め、刻々と変化する入試改革の状況に即応する研究を目指して研究活動絵を進めてきた。
    初年度から、研究成果を速報することを目的としたウェブサイトを通じて、研究成果を発信してきた。平成30年度末までに本研究とは直接的な関係はないが、本研究とかかわりが深い研究分担者等の成果も含め、42件の報告がアップロードされている。平成30年度においては、本研究の直接の成果が5件、参考資料も含めると16件の研究成果が新たにアップロードされた。そのうちの2件は、共通試験への記述式導入の問題や英語外部試験の活用と比較してこれまで注目を集めることが比較的少なかった主体性評価に関するものである(宮本、2019;鈴木,2019)。参考資料の中にも主体性評価に関わる内容が多くなっており、本研究においても従来からの記述式や英語外部試験活用の問題へ注目と同様に主体性評価への注目を深めて行っている。なお、改革が近づくにつ入れて具体的な問題点が表面化しており、本研究の中でもいくつかの研究でそれが指摘されている。
    平成30年度には、3年間の研究成果を踏まえ、中間報告書を刊行した。また、研究組織も状況の変化に応じて来年度からの見直しをかけることとしたが、そのような状況に応じた変化は当初からの計画に従ったものである。

    自尊感情(Self-esteem)は多くの研究に用いられる概念である。その測定は心理尺度を用いて行われることが多いが,本研究はその心理尺度を用いた測定に関する諸課題について検討を行うことを目的としている。
    2018年度は,2017年度までの成果等をふまえ,Rosenberg(1965)の自尊感情尺度の翻訳間の差異を中心にした測定上の課題について検討を行った。具体的には,2017年度の成果(並川,2018)なども踏まえ,日本で多く用いられているRosenberg自尊感情尺度の翻訳版3つ(星野,1970;桜井,1987,山本・松井・山成,1982)をとりあげ,比較を行った。まず,3つの訳を組み合わせた9種類の項目セットを作成し,1800名を対象にあらためてデータ収集を行い,項目反応理論(Item Response Theory)を適用した分析を行った。その結果,項目パラメタの比較などから,同じオリジナル版項目の翻訳であっても項目の表現によって差異が生じ,自尊感情の測定に影響を与えている可能性が指摘された。項目の平均値にも訳による差異がみられ,訳による違いが合計得点の高低にも関連している可能性が示唆される。さらに,訳によって10項目のテスト情報量等も異なることが示された。今回は,項目の表現のみに焦点を絞った分析ではあるものの,表現によるパラメタの違いなどは今後の尺度作成や尺度の翻訳などにも活用可能な資料になりうると考えられる。

    This study aimed to define and understand the factors that may help reduce respondent burden in questionnaire-based investigations. We developed abridged versions of psychological measurement systems. In a study involving college students where the questionnaire consisted of 190 items, the feeling of a burden and the rates of missing value didn't increase. Moreover, we published (Namikawa et al. 2004) techniques to shorten the length of questionnaires and improve their reliability. We developed shortened versions of questionnaires, such as the Big Five scale, the daily parent and child's relationship measuring system, the Japanese version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for children (STAI-C), and so on. Finally, we developed a questionnaire system based on Computer-Adaptive Test to reduce respondent burden.
