The Aerogel Ring-Imaging Cherenkov detector (ARICH) is being installed in the endcap region of Belle II spectrometer to identify particles from B meson decays by detecting the Cherenkov ring image from aerogel radiators. To detect single photons, high-sensitive photon detector which has wide effective area (similar to 70 mm x 70 mm), a Hybrid Avalanche Photo Detector (HAPD), has been developed in a collaboration with Hamamatsu K.K. The HAPD consists of hybrid structure of a vacuum tube and an avalanche photodiode (APD). It can be operated in 1.5 T magnetic field of the spectrometer and withstands the radiation levels expected in the Belle II experiment. There are two steps of electric pulse amplification: acceleration of photo-electron in electric field in the vacuum tube part and electron avalanche in the APD part resulting in total gain of order 10(5). For the ARICH, we use 420 HAPDs in total. Before installing them, we performed quality assessment studies such as measurements of dark current, noise level, signal-to-noise ratio and two-dimensional scan with laser illumination. We also measured quantum efficiency of the photocathode. During the HAPD performance tests in the magnetic field, we observed very large signal pulses which cause long dead time of the readout electronics in some of the HAPDs. We have carried out a number of studies to understand this phenomenon, and have found a way to mitigate it and suppress the degradation of the ARICH performance. In this report, we will show a summary of the HAPD performance and quality assessment measurements including validation in the magnetic field for all of the HAPDs manufactured for the ARICH in the Belle II.

We will present recent topics of the flavor physics in decays of the heavy mesons at the Belle experiment. Most of the results are based on a full data set which corresponds to 772 million B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e(+) e(-) collider. We also discuss about prospects of the studies in the future B-factory experiment.

We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP violation parameters in B0 -> eta'K-0 decays. The measurement is based on the full data sample containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance using the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The measured values of the mixing-induced and direct CP violation parameters are:
sin 2 phi(eff)(1) = +0.68 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.03,
A(eta'K0) = +0.03 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.04,
where the first uncertainty is statistical arid the second is systernatic. The values obtained are the most accurate to date. lurthierrimore. these results are consistent with our previous measurements and with the world-average value of sin 2 phi(1) measured in B-0 -> J/psi K-0 decays.

We report development and current status of Aerogel Ring Imaging Cherenkov counter (ARICH) which is a particle identification detector in the next generation B-factory experiment, the Belle II. The main components of the ARICH are aerogel radiator and photon sensor. When a charged particle goes through the radiator, it emits Cherenkov light photons to the direction which depends on the particle velocity. Combining observables in the Belle II detector, such as a momentum measured with tracker installed inside of the ARICH, and directions of the Cherenkov light photons with the ARICH, we obtain the charged particle mass information. A new photon sensor named Hybrid Avalanche Photon Detector (HAPD) is used to collect a small number of the Cherenkov light photons distributed in the large area effectively. We set up a small part of the ARICH detector and perform the measurement using electron and hadron beam lines at KEK, CERN and DESY. From the obtained results, we expect that it is possible to separate K- and pi-mesons by more than 5 sigma significance level with the ARICH design. The HAPD and its readout electronics production has been started and several kinds of the quality testing for them are ongoing. We also simulate the whole ARICH detector with a GEANT4-based program and expected performance of the particle identification is sufficient for charged tracks in a wide momentum range. After finishing the production of the all components, the construction of the ARICH detector will start in this year and installation to the Belle II detector will be completed in 2015.

We present a precise measurement of the CP violation parameter sin2 phi(1) and the direct CP violation parameter A(f) using the final data sample of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. One neutral B meson is reconstructed in a J / psi K-S(0), psi (2S)K-S(0), chi K-c1(S)0, or J / psi K-L(0) CP eigenstate and its flavor is identified from the decay products of the accompanying B meson. From the distribution of proper-time intervals between the two B decays, we obtain the following CP violation parameters: sin2 phi(1) = 0.667 +/- 0.023(stat) +/- 0.012(syst) and A(f) = 0.006 +/- 0.016(stat) +/- 0.012(syst).

We report measurements of CP violation parameters in B-0 -> K-0 pi(0) decays based on a data sample of 657 X 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) asymmetric-energy collider. We use B-0 -> K-S(0)pi(0) decays for both mixing-induced and direct CP violating asymmetry measurements and B-0 -> K-L(0)pi(0) decays for the direct CP violation measurement. The CP violation parameters obtained are sin2 phi(eff)(1) - +0.67 +/- 0.31(stat) +/- 0.08(syst) and A(K0 pi 0) - +0.14 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.06(syst). The branching fraction of B-0 -> K-0 pi(0) decay is measured to be B(B-0 -> K-0 pi(0)) - (8.7 +/- 0.5(stat) +/- 0.6(syst)) X 10(-6). The observed A(K0 pi 0) value differs by 1.9 standard deviations from the value expected from an isospin sum rule.

We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B-0 -> phi K-0, eta K-'(0), (KSKSKS0)-K-0-K-0 decays based on a sample of 535 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain sin2 phi(eff)(1) = +0.64 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.04(syst) for B-0 -> eta K-'(0), +0.50 +/- 0.21(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) for B-0 ->phi K-0, and +0.30 +/- 0.32(stat) +/- 0.08(syst) for B-0 -> (KSKSKS0)-K-0-K-0 decays. We have observed CP violation in the B-0 -> eta K-'(0) decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B-0 -> J/psi K-0 decays and obtain sin2 phi(1) = +0.642 +/- 0.031(stat) +/- 0.017(syst).

We have searched for neutrinoless tau lepton decays into lhh or lV(0), where l stands for an electron or muon, h for a charged light hadron, pi or K, and V-0 for a neutral vector meson, rho(0), K*(892)(0) and phi, using a 158 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. Since the number of events observed are consistent with the expected background, we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range of (1.6-8.0) x 10(-7) for various decay modes at the 90% confidence level. We have operated successfully glass Resistive Plate Counters (RPC) at the BELLE experiment by using a nonflammable gas mixture of 30% argon, 8% butane-silver and 62% freon, HFC-134a. This freon is nonozone depleting freon, but a freon has a high global warming potential in general. Thus a gas mixture for RPC might be desired to be freonless in the near future. We have tested the performance of glass RPC operated in streamer mode with a nonfreon gas mixture of argon, butane, CO2 and/or O-2 gases, and found an efficiency of about 90%. Neutrinoless tau-lepton decays into either three leptons (tau- --> l(1)(-)l(2)l(3)) or one lepton and one K-S(0) meson(tau- --> l(-)K(S)(0)) where lepton means either an electron or muon, have been searched for using 48.6 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. No evidence for candidate decays are found in any channel. Therefore we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fraction for 8 different decay modes. These limits are more stringent than those set previously and reach to the 10(-7) level.

This paper describes the muon identification method and its performance in the Belle experiment at KEKB. Muon and hadron likelihood are calculated for each track using its range and transverse scattering in the K-L-and-muon detector (KLM). We apply a cut on the normalized muon likelihood L-mu to identify the track as a muon. Above the detection threshold of 0.6 GeV/c, the measured muon detection efficiency and pion fake rate are approximately constant for momenta greater than 1.0 and 1.5 GeV/c, respectively. Between 1.0 and 3.0 GeV/c, the averaged muon detection efficiency is 89% and the pion fake rate per track is 1.4% over the KLM acceptance, using the standard selection criterion L-mu > 0.9.
