    Fifteen juvenile of white-tailed eagles were fitted with hourly GPS positioning devices, which successfully collected location data from one year to a maximum of less than four years. From the GPS positioning data, we were able to select the positions of the birds during their flight and reproduce the fluid (wind) conditions at that time.
    Another continuous positioning multi-functional GPS was installed on six juvenile white-tailed eagles, and from their flight data, a typology of flight behavior (circling, flapping, and gliding) was conducted, and a typology method was established. In order to clarify the relationship between flight behavior type and wind conditions, we had to deal with the small number of individuals wearing the device and the extremely large amount of labor required for simulating wind conditions.

    We have taken every respnsibility concerning "Science and Practice of the Oriental White Stork Reintroduction Program" after its start in 2005. In 2017 breeding region expanded from northern Kinki-district into Shikoku Island etc,, thus making a great step into the goal of "construction of the storks' meta-population structure." Conservation/restoration of terrestrial biodiversity were advanced by establishing the restoration method of the flood plain. Genetical exchange between wild and captive populations are done very well. And the method of making up agreements among people-administrators-scholars were made successfully, also.

    In the west coast of Shiretoko Peninsula, the water depth was shallow, velocity was low, and sunlight penetrated into the stream bed, all of which resulted in increasing the water temperature up to 25℃ in summer where dams were built densely along the stream course. The density of Dolly Varden in such a stream was low, and the fry was not confirmed.
    Laboratory experiments showed that the Dolly Varden fries foraged less above 22℃, and they died at 26℃. Other experiments to clarify a defensive response of Dolly Varden to heat stress, the expression of
    Hsp (heat-shock protein) 60s and 70 rose above 16℃. Field survey showed that the weight of ovaries were smaller as the expression of Hsp60 and 60s increased, and that the population density was low in the stream where the expression of Hsp60s and 70 was high. Thus, Hsp was shown to be an effective molecular index to detect the heat stress.

    The distribution of the oriental weatherloach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, together with related environmental factors were surveyed at 52 ditches of modernization in the Kuninaka region on Sado island. Analysis with GIS, GLM and AIC revealed that positive factors for the loach density were differed from each season. We also produced a GIS map that the predicted the density of loach across all ditches within the Kuninaka region. We discuss how the potential distribution map can be applied to the management of the oriental weathetloach.

    To complete a restoration scenario for the resettlement of the crested ibis, we created the potential maps for predicting prey biomass, nesting habitat, and foraging habitat of ibis, using generalized linear model. By reflecting this information on the Sado city's strategy for improving biodiversity, a system that verify effectiveness of restoration scenario and modify it sustainably could be built up. Next, in order to evaluate whether re-introduced population will persist for 50 years on Sado Island, population viability analysis(PVA) was conducted using population parameters of wild population in China and revealed that establishment of the re-introduced population on Sado island will be difficult under current fragile reproduction.

    Presence of approximately 200 dams was confirmed in the study streams and Dolly Varden density was lower in high dam-density streams. Because dam density was positively correlated with maximum summer water temperatures, construction of dams caused stream temperature increase and possibly shrunk the thermal habitat of the fish. Also, number of days exceeding water temperature of 22℃ was greater in the high dam-density streams compared to the low-dam density ones.

    We modified river dikes and adjusted the stream grade to remove the barriers for fish movement and also installed fish corridors to allow the fishes to move freely between rivers, irrigation ditches, and rice paddy fields at the Tenno River in the island. In the river, we have found little difference in the abundance and biodiversity probably due to the short length of time investigated after the modification ; we expect to find some responses from the fish if we continue the monitoring. On the other hand, the fish biomass significantly increased in the paddies where the fish passes had been set.
