An analytical and exact solution is presented for an axisymmetric contact problem of an elastic layer subjected to a tensile stress applied over a circular region. This mixed boundary-value problem is reduced to solve an infinite system of simultaneous equations by means of a method of expressing a normal displacement in the circular region as an appropriate series. The effects of layer thickness on stress and displacement distributions are discussed.

人工膝関節脛骨インサートとして使用されている超高分子量ポリエチレン（UHMWPE）の衝撃圧縮特性を調べた．全人工膝関節置換システム（Genesis II：Smith & Nephew, Memphis, TN, USA）のUHMWPE製脛骨インサートから，直径5.3mm，長さ5.3mmの円柱状試験片を作製した．ホプキンソン棒法衝撃圧縮試験を実施して弾性率および耐力を調べるとともに，UHMWPEの力学挙動を記述できる粘弾性モデルについても検討を行なった．さらに生体骨との力学的適合性について検討するため，人工関節の設置部位を占める海綿骨の衝撃圧縮特性と比較した．その結果，以下のことが明らかになった．１．応力_-_ひずみ関係は負荷初期では直線的であったが1.5%ひずみ付近で傾きが減少する傾向が見られた．２．UHMWPEの力学モデルとして３要素標準線形固体モデルが適用可能であった．３．UHMWPEの衝撃圧縮弾性率および粘弾性特性値はウシ大腿骨海綿骨のそれより低かった．

Time-dependent behaviour in deflection on teeth of plastic gears was predicted. Based on the correspondence principle, viscoelastic solutions for tooth deflection and tooth root strain were obtained from the associated elastic solutions by replacing the elastic constants by the viscoelastic operators. To validate the viacoelastic solutions, we measured tooth deflection and tooth root strain on polyacetal and Nylon gears under cyclic load at frequencies of up to 30 Hz. Both tooth deflection and tooth root strain decreased with increasing loading cycle. Assuming that the viscoelastic behaviour of these plastics can be described by the three element standard linear solid, we predicted tooth deflection and tooth root strain. A good agreement was obtained between measured and calculated values of tooth deflection and tooth root strain.
