    The purpose of this study is to find out a parameter of swinging properties of moving flared skirts objectively from the appearance of the flared skirts in dynamic state. We took the appearance of the flared skirt with swinging by the CCD camera and analyzed the pictures with moving image processing system. The correlation between these swinging properties of flared skirts, and mechanical properties and subjective evaluation is examined. As a result, the appearance of a moving flared skirt is expected to be dominated by the amount of changeable hem width rather than the maximum hem width. The maximum hem width at turn-round angle 30 degrees has a tendency to be related to shear properties such as Q 2HG5 and 2HG and compound mechanical parameters and shear vibrational properties. On the other hand, the difference between the maximum and minimum hem width of a moving flared skirt at the same turn-round angle correlated to shear vibrational properties and bending vibrational properties such as d1, d2, S1 and S2. The ratio of dynamic hem width at turn-round motion to static hem width is correlated highly with subjective appraisals.

    The purpose of this study is to evaluate aesthetic appearance of flared skirts in dynamic state objectively, in consideration of the actual wearer's motion. We studied the relationship between subjective values obtained from sensory test of moving skirts' appearance and tur (n) under bar -round angle of a mannequin stand. From the agreed results of panels, we found the optimum conditions of turn-round angle and speeds of a mannequin. stand. By using subjective values obtained from sensory test under the optimum conditions, we selected mechanical and vibrational parameters for an objective evaluation equation of beautiful appearance of moving flared skirts by cluster analysis. The objective evaluation equations were derived for "flowing", "rhythmical", "airy", "flexible", "graceful", "lively", "dynamic" and "beautiful" moving flared skirts by using those parameters. The basic and combined mechanical parameters such as WT and (3)rootG/W are related to moving clothing appearance significantly. The total beautiful appearance of flared skirts in dynamic state were evaluated mainly by flowing, rhythmical, airy, flexible, graceful and lively movement subjectively.

    The purpose of this study is to evaluate aesthetic appearance of flared skirts in dynamic state objectively. We studied the relationship between subjective values obtained from sensory test of moving skirts' appearance and mechanical parameters, shear and bending vibrational properties of those fabrics. We selected mechanical and vibrational parameters for an objective evaluation equation of beautiful appearance of moving flared skirts by cluster analysis of those mechanical and vibrational parameters. By using those parameters obtained from cluster analysis, the equation to describe aesthetic appearance of moving flared skirts objectively was derived for "flowing", "rhythmical", "blowy" and "beautiful" one. The total beautiful appearance of flared skirts in dynamic state was evaluated mainly by flowing and rhythmical moving subjectively. The compound mechanical parameters such as (3)rootB/W, root2HB/W, (3)rootG/W and static drape coefficient explaining static silhouettes of flared skirts showed good correlation with "flowing", "rhythmical" and "beautiful" moving of flared skirts. Therefore those parameters might influence dynamic silhouettes of flared skirts.

    The effect of basic fabric parameters, such as weave density and yarn twist, on the shear vibration of a fabric is studied theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the proposed theoretical damping ratio, based on inter-thread friction between warp and weft threads at the crossover points of threads, is valid, and the experimental results are explained qualitatively by the theory. The damping ratio of shear vibration increases with the weave density in the fabric; however, the effect of yarn twist is larger. There exists an optimum value for both weave density and yarn twist to give the smallest value of the damping ratio, k, at which the shear vibration continues for the longest time.

    Bending vibrational properties of silk fabrics were measured in details and analyzed by using the new mechanical parameters of bending vibration. It was shown that bending vibration of Georgette continued the longest and that those of Chirimen and Shantung shorter within the six silk fabric groups. Silk fabrics are classified into two groups, that is, one is Habutae, Dechine and Georgette group, which has longer damping of bending vibration of fabrics, and the other is Fujiginu, Chirimen and Shantung group, which is shorter in bending vibration than that of the former. Those features of silk fabrics in bending vibrational properties became more distinct by discriminant analysis using the parameters of bending vibration as variable. These classifications could be explained by the mechanism of the inter—yarn and/or inter-fiber frinctional effect during bending vibration of silk fabrics. © 2000, The Japan Research Association for Textile End-Uses.
