    Developing critical thinking is an important factor in education. In this study, the author defines critical thinking as the<br />
    set of skills and dispositions which enable one to solve problems logically and to attempt to reflect autonomously by<br />
    means of metacognitive regulation of one&#039;s own problem-solving processes. To identify the validity and reliability of<br />
    students’ self -assessment, the critical thinking rubric and Toulmin model combination was introduced. At the end of the<br />
    lesson all Toulmin model work sheets written by students were revised correctly. It was discovered that students solve<br />
    problems logically. This shows that a high level of critical thinking among students is reliable and valid.

    In this research the author defines critical thinking as the set of skills and dispositions which enable one to solve problems logically and to attempt to reflect autonomously by means of Metacognitive regulation on one&#039;s own problem-solving processes. In order to develop their critical thinking, it is important for students to be able to use this<br />
    rubric and assess themselves. The author focuses on providing Metacognitive regulation to help with self-assessment.<br />
    Metacognitive regulation consist of two aspects: a critical thinking rubric as criterion and evidence of the<br />
    problem-solving process. Comparison of achievement levels in the above critical thinking rubric, and content analysis of<br />
    the reasons for a particular level of achievement in critical thinking, suggest that Metacognitive regulation with this critical thinking rubric as the criterion, and evidence of the problem-solving process, could enhance students&#039; critical thinking ability.

    The purpose of this study is to propose new media<br />
    literacy education program using visualization and<br />
    reflection of media, cognition using Analytic<br />
    Hierarchy Process. Media cognition, awareness of<br />
    media characteristic such as reliability, Timeliness,<br />
    difficulty, search function and easy of use is<br />
    ambiguous. In this study, using Analytic Hierarchy<br />
    Process, Media connection was visualized each<br />
    individual. With these visualizations and dialog with<br />
    peers, metacognitive activities were conducted.<br />
    84 university students and in-service teachers took part<br />
    in this study.<br />
    As a result of media literacy education program,<br />
    meta-cognitive knowledge seems to be grasped.

    How to guarantee graduate attributes has become an urgent challenge amid the increasing progress in scientific and<br />
    technological development and the globalization of economic activity. In order to solve these problems, a system is<br />
    required which can visualize learning outcomes in relation to attainment targets, and store and sample records of the<br />
    learning process. It was on this basis that Niigata University commenced development of the Niigata University Bachelor<br />
    Assessment System (NBAS). This study outlines the NBAS and discusses topics for future research.

    各科目の到達目標をボトムアップによって主専攻プログラムの到達目標として整理する過程を通して,教員の間にあった暗黙の人材育成目的が明示化され,共有化されることなどが明らかになった。<br />

    There are two levels of teacher's knowledge, one is explicit, and the other one is tacit. Sarah(2000) emphasized the importance of professional value. The tacit level concerns their own professional values, for example, 'What matters most to me as a teacher?'. It has been said that excellent teachers seem to have rich tacit knowledge and use it fully. The purpose of this study is to develop a tool which supports emerging teacher's tacit knowledge. The purpose of this study is to develop a tool which supports emerging teacher's tacit knowledge. In concrete terms we develop a reflection tool using an electronic blackboard and a teaching life log.

    This study examined the practice and function of Program FD, which aims to give substance to educational programs and improve educational issues in Niigata University. Based on the university's framework of four educational target domains, the teaching staff in each educational program implemented Program FD by re-examining the objectives and re-orienting its curriculum map from the perspective of reallocating individual courses. As a result, the teaching staff's common understanding of the objectives was promoted in the course of reallocating and weighting the courses with these objectives. Moreover, the re-orientation of the curriculum map functioned as a framework for rendering the coherence and alignment of the curriculum visible. The results suggest that the use of Program FD may be a concrete approach to supporting continuous curriculum improvement. Finally, we discussed issues relating to the future development of Program FD, which is expected to be implemented in daily educational activities.

    |Niigata University has started to develop the Niigata University Bachelor Assessment System (NBAS). The objective is to have groups of teachers belonging to educational programs discuss whether visualized learning outcomes are comprehensible. Discussions based on teachers&#039; subjective judgments showed in general that visualized learning outcomes express students&#039; natural abilities and, unlike simple GPA and grade data, are conducive to grasping the level of success in reaching attainment targets.     The Japanese Student Services Organization (JASSO) has started its "Short-Stay and Short-Visit scholarship programs (SS-SV programs)" in the academic year 2011. The Faculty of Engineering, Niigata University, has obtained these scholarships for both German and Japanese students in 2011 and 2012. The objective of these "SS-SV programs" is to support students to visit a foreign country and stay there for less than three months. Because of our past experience of the "Two-week Summer School", which has been developed within the cooperation between Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany and Niigata University, Japan since 1996, we experienced that a short term stay in a foreign country works as an initiator for the students' interest and will to study further in foreign countries. The authors believe that this type of short-term exchanges has actually proved to be very effective to encourage the students in engineering fields to start international activities.

    This article examines the practice and function of "Program FD" that aims to give substance to bachelor's degree programs and improve educational issues at Niigata University. On the basis of the university's framework of four educational target areas, each program's teaching staff implemented the practice of Program FD through reexamining the attainment targets of the degree program and recoordinating its curriculum map from the viewpoint of relocation of individual courses. As a result, the common understanding of the attainment targets among the teaching staff was promoted in the course of relocating and weighting the courses with the targets. Moreover, the recoordination of the curriculum map functioned as a framework for making the systemic curriculum alignment visible. The results suggest that the practice of Program FD may become a concrete approach to continuous curriculum improvement. Finally, the article discusses issues left for further development of Program FD that is expected to be implemented in daily educational activities.

    The present study tested the Causal Model for the relationship among critical thinking on web browsing, skills of media utilization, positive attitude and preconception to media. The following instruments were used: the critical viewing skills scale; the skills of media utilization scale; the positive attitude information gathering scale; the scale of preconception to media. Simultaneous Analysis of several groups was also used to clarify the differences of school levels. Data were analyzed with the structural equation modeling. The results were as follows (GFI=.94, AGFI=.91, RMSEA =.02): (1) Positive attitude predicted skills of media utilization and preconception on media positively. (2) Preconception on media predicted critical thinking on web browsing positively.

    Instruction through the use of hypermedia has recentry increased in Japanese elementary schools. In this study, the author has developed a hypermedia unit for a social studies class as a tool for students' information processing. The two main purposes for this study are 1) to develop a work unit using hypermedia incooperating a field trip, and 2) to identify how hypermedia and field trips affect the development of students' knowledge base. After developing the hypermedia material on "Tsuishu," the author tested it on a social studies class at elementary school. Data was collected on the learning process, on image mapping test, and reports from the field trip. These were analyzed to identify the development of the students' knowledge base on Tsuishu. The results of this study are as follows. The hypermedia material aided students' information processing and aroused studnets' interest on Tsuishu. Through the field trip, the students were shown to have developed a deep respect for the craftsmen, as well as accessing greater detailed and first-hand information about the technical skill of craftsmen.

    VR授業ポートフォリオを用いたメタ認知的活動を開発した。質的分析ソフトウェアNVivo版とMAXQDA2022版を使用して開発した。質的分析ソフトウェアは、動画と文字データ(字幕化)を同期しつつ,コード化し分析できる機能がある。
    自己と熟達者の個人間比較によるメタ認知的活動では、①授業観の把握、授業実施と視野範囲の記録、自己の認知・判断・対応の表出、他者との比較によるメタ認知的活動がある。①授業観の把握:授業者,熟達者の授業観をインタビュー、授業者と熟達者が協働で授業設計、事前における実現したい学習と手立て、その予測を把握するために指導案を作成した。②授業実施と視野範囲の記録:授業を実施した。授業者に主観カメラ,熟達者にVRカメラを装着してもらい,注視範囲を記録した。③自己の認知・判断・対応の表出:授業者,参観者それぞれに対して自己の主観カメラ映像における認知・判断・対応の解釈を求めた。その時、オン・ゴーイング法、カード構造化法も用いた方法を併用した。④他者との比較によるメタ認知的活動:他者の手立てとその根拠を視聴することにより,自己の認知・判断・対応の特徴を語ってもらい,文字化して字幕として動画と同期した。
    主体的・対話的で深い学びに対する教職課程履修学生の意識について,学年間の比較を通して検討した。AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process:階層分析法)「良いと思う授業像」尺度を活用し、教職課程履修学生の1年次と4年次の基準、代替案の平均値比較、相関を分析した。
    教師教育プログラムの開発は小学校社会科の個人間比較からスタートした。計量テキスト分析KH Coderを用い、メタ認知的活動の要約が出来る方法を試行した。

(1) Model curriculum for Information literacy in elementary and junior high school was developed in cooperation with Sendai education center and the board of education in Sendai.     The development of an education program promoting higher-level engineers, that takes their diverse study histories into consideration is our main goal. Education systems in Japan, such as Technical High Schools, Technical Colleges, Technical Junior Colleges, Universities, and Graduate Schools. While it is true that the numbers of both female-, as well as foreign- students in Engineering fields are increasing, they are not yet at desired levels. Diversity in Engineering Education is necessary both in Japan and in the view point of Japanese contribution to international society, which is now globalized in many fields. The globalization of the Japanese Engineering Education System is vitally important for exporting both industrial products and Japanese Engineering Education systems.
    We are extremely proud of our success, having grown students who have both the ability to explore the subject and make meaningful contributions in globalized society in our program.

    The purpose of this study was to development a systematic scheme to evaluate non-technical skills for surgeons on the Japanese contexts. As to develop evaluation scheme, we gathered information about medical accidents, specifically death cases, in Japanese health care settings and analyze it. As a result, more than half of cases have been identified to be caused by lack of non-technical skills. And we set up the evaluation scheme of non-technical skills for surgeons and gathered data of them using this scheme. We found that an item of leadership was low score comparing other items. And we also pointed out that, scores of surgeons being evaluated was higher than that of not being evaluated.
