    The principal aim of the present study is to elucidate the educational value of image media expression in a diversifying society. First, we reflect on the transition of multiculturalism policy in Australia with regard to diversification. Then we clarify what kind of challenges Australia experienced under the influence of neo-liberalism. Next, based on past examples, we discuss the possibilities of image media expression as a way to overcome these challenges. In particular, by analyzing image media expression using McLuhan's medium theory, we clearly demonstrate the "learning structure" unique to image media expression.

    <p>The purpose of this study is to show the principle that visual media expression overcomes "vulnerability" which is pointed out in various fields in a modern society and leads to "resilience". This paper focused on the practice regarding movie appreciation taken place in the middle of the Showa period, called the "Motomiya System Movie Appreciation Movement". This movement is the education system built in cooperation between a school, parents and a local community while educational environment for children had not been developed yet in Japan after WW II. Its motive force was "Blue Pencil Association" which was organized centered on mothers of children. First of all, this paper highlighted the methodology of the "Motomiya Method" and its educational meaning, by obtaining information from mothers of children at that time and the books of Mr. Tsukasa Okabe, who was the teacher who promoted the practice at Motomiya Elementary School at that time. Then, I analyzed the learning structure in the "Motomiya Method" referring to the media theory of Marshall McLuhan. By this investigative study, I clarified the role which visual media expression played in the process of extracting resilience out of vulnerability.</p>

    The purpose of this study is to pursue the meaning and possibility of "The expression through the visual media" in art education. I have continued the plan to play footage works done by children for 6 years. Ever since, some works that feature earthquake disaster as themes have been exhibited every year. Some elementary schools worked on movies under the slogan of "from PTSD to PTG". In this paper, I would like to refer the knowledge of PTG which is studied progressively mainly in the U.S., then consider the potential how "The expression through the visual media" can relate to psychological process of PTG. Especially, I would like to analyze the important concept "resilience" from previous study to combine to the methodology of art education.

    "Cineliteracy" is an area of education in which motivation for learning is fostered through understating and making movies. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the pedagogical importance of "cineliteracy". Firstly, the changes in students and teachers were studied through a collaborative project with movie theaters in Niigata city in 2009. Next, using the media theory of McLuhan and the pragmatism of Dewey as clues, theoretical consideration was made. This study revealed that movie production has a quality in itself to bring about a sense of self-affirmation in children. It also confirmed the educational value of schools, families and societies working together to support children's expression.

    The PISA research of OECD greatly influences the new educational guidelines. This discourse considers the meaning and the possibility in the fine arts education about "Key competency" and "Literacy" that are the academic attainments concept of the PISA research. First of all, the explication of the theory clarifies that literacy in the PISA type academic view emphasizes the "Positive posture". Next, considering the findings such as Vygotsky's "The Zone of Proximal Development" and Giroux's "Critical Literacy" as the clue, it refers to the importance of contrivance bringing "Awareness" in practice.

    The purpose of this paper is to present new ideas in art education through the feedforward concept. It is my belief that modern children have lost their independence and sense of beauty because the structure of modern society has brought about a change in our senses. I feel that the meaning of freedom is generally misunderstood and that we are heavily influenced by the media. I believe that children's expression has become passive as a result and that children need to develop a `positive attitude' towards self expression. This `positive attitude' is fundamental in developing `freedom in creation' . In this thesis, I will emphasise the role of the feedforward concept in order to recover this `positive attitude ' . Through the feedforward concept we can take an objective position and be conscious of the fundamentals of artistic expression. A course can be found to apply this concept to art education enabling students to find `freedom in creation' .

    本研究の目的は,基本的に「表現活動にメタ認知的方略の機会を取り入れる授業方法を構造化し,前向きな資質・能力の形成が促進されることを実践的に検証する。」である。研究推進の三ヵ年計画としては,(1年次)「メタ認知的方略」の構造化に関する理論研究。(2年次)授業分析によるメタ認知の図式化。(3年次)美術教育におけるメタ認知に関する国際比較研究を通した一般化。と整理される。1年次の研究は,「メタ認知的方略」という概念の構造化を目指し,幼稚園及び小学校の教員と連携を図って実践を通した理論分析を行った。幼稚園では「子どもの環境と表現行為」という視点からの授業実践を認知的側面から分析した。この分析を通して,環境設定の中でも特に「自然」に関わる事象が認知的な循環を活性化させ,メタ認知的活動が創出される傾向が見られた。また,小学校では,「光」を素材とした造形表現を事例として,「物語」や「ICT機器の利用」の場面にメタ認知的視座の創出が見られた。これらの実践を通して,子どもの資質が環境の在りようと相まっているものであるという,教育的な必要条件が浮き彫りにされた。また,子どもの資質とは五感の覚醒が起点となっていることも明確になった。これまでの過去の研究では,子どもの想起する「イメージ」が表現行為を誘発するフィードフォワード制御として機能していることがわかっていたが,今回の考察を通し,「イメージ」想起の契機として「自然環境」「物語」「ICT機器」という三つのキーワードが浮上してきた。この三つは授業方法の改善に直結すること,また,この三つが「メタ認知的方略」の創出に関わっている構造を図式的に可視化できたことは一年次の研究成果である。一方で,「メタ認知的方略」と「前向きな資質・能力」との関連やつながりについては,更なる分析と整理が必要である。2年次以降の研究に反映させていきたい。

    This study aims to elucidate the educational value of video media representation by a comparative research on Japan and Australia. First, it was revealed that video media representation has played a significant role in the process of overcoming various problems in the multicultural society of Australia. Particularly, on the gap issues brought by the neo-liberalism, the attributes of video media worked efficiently. The main reason for that was that video media have the effect of triggering “metacognition” and “empowerment”. Such ‘form of learning’ is brought about by both cognitive and social aspects. Results of this study are expected to largely contribute to the education in the global society in the future.

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the educational significance of the "Expression used image media", and to reflect its results to the actual education. For that purpose, we tried to study and reflect the practice of the "cine-literacy" of Australia to the practice in Japan. We simultaneously held publicly-offered film festivals, symposiums and such. These practices and studies revealed two elements of the significance of the "Expression used image media": First, the characteristics of the image media inspire children to learn more, and secondly it has an effect to provide educational environments, involving schools, homes and local communities. Furthermore, conducting this study contributed to establish a future basis of Australia-Japan intercommunion.
