研究代表者は、2019年８月5日から9月23日まで、シンガポールにおいて、1990年代におけるアニメ作品における音声の現地化とその受容についてのインタビュー調査と文献調査を行った。インタビュー対象者は、現地のアニメ・マンガ批評誌等に寄稿する批評家、アニメスタジオの経営者、日本の出版社の現地法人マンガ翻訳部門担当者、またアニメーション制作を学ぶ芸術大学の学生であった。
現地調査から、英語、中国語、マレー語、タミル語を公用語とする多言語国家シンガポール独自の音声の現地化の状況が判明した。人口の約75パーセントを中国系住民が占めているため、シンガポール独自の字幕制作や吹き替えが行われることは稀であり、台湾および香港で制作された中国語版が流通してきた。国家を超えたネットワークである中国語圏におけるアニメの受容は、2018年に調査を行った韓国では現地声優による韓国語吹替版が精力的に制作されてきたこととは対照的である。今後の課題として、多言語共同体と単一言語共同体における音声の現地化の比較分析が発見された。
９月13日にLASALLE College of the Artsにて、1990年代アニメにおける声の演出とその受容について講義を行い、その後シンガポール大学の日本大衆文化研究者と討議し、東南アジアにおけるアニメ受容に関する意見交換を行った。
当初計画においては、2019年度は中国語吹替版の発信地とみなされる台湾において調査を行う予定であったが、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大のため、渡航調査ができなかった。2020年度に改めて渡航を計画するか、オンラインでの調査の可能性を模索している。
研究分担者は、2018年度に引き続き、音声の現地化を含む韓国と日本のアニメスタジオで行われた合作実態解明について調査を行ない、シンガポールの事例との比較検討を進めている。

シンガポールのアニメーション制作を学ぶ学生と若手アニメーション研究者、マレーシア・ベトナムの若手マンガ家が新潟市に滞在し、同市においてアニメ制作とアニメ研究を学ぶ学生たちとともに、新潟市に蓄積されてきたアニメ・マンガ文化を体験する。帰国後は、新潟市滞在経験についてのアニメーションおよびマンガの制作を開始する。作品は2018年3月1日までに完成させ、3月15日から20日までシンガポールの LASALLE College of the Artsで開催されるパネル展「新潟経験から生まれたアニメーションとマンガ」において発表する。作品の評価者として、ともに新潟市出身であるアニメ監督山賀博之とアニメプロデューサー斎藤友子が加わり、同パネル展出品作品について論評会を開催する。同パネル展への集客効果をあげるため、山賀監督『王立宇宙軍 オネアミスの翼』の中間素材展、山賀・斎藤の講演会、新潟市におけるアニメ中間素材利用に関するセミナーを開催し、新潟市発のアニメ・マンガ文化を東南アジアにおいて複合的に発信する。

Conducted with the Watanabe Collection whose materials were kept by Watanabe Hideo involved in anime productions for a long time, this research project presented findings through archiving and digitalizing the Collection as well as creating its metadata, while examining the storyboards and other raw/intermediate materials in a demonstrative and interdisciplinary approach, by sharing and collaborating them with scholars in Japan and abroad. These research activities led to clarifying material realities of anime productions, elucidating the creating processes of anime works, and further starting a chemical examination for the conservation of cel drawings. In an attempt to utilize the archived materials and share the research findings, talk events and exhibitions for scholars and general public were held at home and abroad, thereby expanding and deepening their attention to and understanding of the project’s subject.
