    <title>Abstract</title>Two-thirds of the 111 active volcanoes in Japan are covered with snow for several months during winter and demonstrate high hazard and risk potentials associated with snow-related lahars during and after eruptions. On 23 January 2018, a sudden phreatic eruption occurred at the ski field on Kusatsu-Shirane (Mt. Motoshirane) volcano, Japan. This new vent eruption from the snow-clad pyroclastic cone required forecasting of future snow-related lahars and crisis hazards zonation of downslope areas including Kusatsu town, a popular tourist site for skiing and hot springs. In order to achieve a prompt hazard assessment for snow-related lahars, a multidisciplinary approach was carried out involving characterization of proximal tephra deposits, snow surveys, and numerical lahar flow simulations using the Titan2D model. To determine the input parameters for the flow model, the consideration of snow water equivalent (SWE) immediately after the eruption (on 29 January) and in the post-eruptive period (on 12 March), was significant. In the case of Kusatsu-Shirane volcano during the winter of 2018, linear relationships between altitude and SWE, obtained at different elevations, were used to estimate the snow volume around the new vents. Several scenarios incorporating snow and snowmelt (water), with or without the occurrence of a new eruption, were simulated for the prediction of future lahars. Three lahar scenarios were simulated, including A) rain-on-snow triggered, B) ice/snow slurry, and C) full snowmelt triggered by a new eruption, and indicated the flow paths (inundation areas) and travel distances. These were useful for lahar hazard zonation and identification of potential high-risk areas. Since the input parameters required for the Titan2D flow model can be relatively easily determined, the model was suitable for the 2018 eruption at Motoshirane where historical and geological lahar records are not available for calibration. The procedure used in the study will enable rapid lahar prediction and hazard zonation at snow-clad volcanoes. Further consideration for simulating a cohesive-type flow, which was predicted by the primary deposits containing large amounts of clay minerals and could not be expressed in the Titan2D flow model, is necessary.

    2018年1月23日10時02分に草津白根山を構成する3山体(白根山・逢ノ峰・本白根山)の一つである本白根山鏡池北火口で1500年ぶりの噴火が発生し, 噴石により人的な被害が発生した。この噴火は顕著な前駆的活動を伴わない水蒸気噴火であった。近年の草津白根火山では, 白根山湯釜水釜火口を中心とする水蒸気噴火活動が顕著で, 火山観測は白根山に集中している。一方で, 今回噴火した本白根山では, これまでの最新の噴火が鏡池北火口での1500年前のマグマ噴火であって, 近年, 鏡池北火口付近には顕著な地熱活動は記録されていない。今回の突発的な噴火を受けて, 以下の3点を明らかにするために総合調査を行った。(1)顕著な前駆的な活動がない水蒸気噴火プロセスの解明(2)今後の火山活動の推移の予測, 特にマグマが噴出する可能性の予測(3)融雪泥流発生リスクの評価。これらの研究のために, 地震観測, 地盤変動観測, 熱観測, 噴出物観測, 地球化学観測, 融雪泥流評価を実施した。これまでの研究成果について報告する。

    In order to clarify how differences in weather conditions affect the surface heat balance of a large maritime glacier, meteorological observations were carried out in the ablation area of Glaciar Exploradores in the Chilean Patagonia during the austral summer of 2006/2007. Under cloudy/rainy weather, when the air temperature and wind speed were high due to advection, the average melting heat was 18.8 MJ m(-2) day(-1) and the turbulent heat fluxes contributed 35% of the total melt. During clear weather, the average melting heat was 16.9 MJ m(-2) day(-1) and 13% of the total was the turbulent heat fluxes. A decrease in air temperature due to the development of the glacier boundary layer on clear days will lead to an overestimation of the melt using the air temperature at a weather station outside of the glacier.

    The Northern Patagonia Icefield (NPI), covering 3953 km(2), is the second largest temperate ice body in South America. Despite its importance as a climate change indicator because of its location and size, data oil ground-based mass balance and meteorological records for the analysis of glacier (Snout) variations are still lacking. The use of multitemporal satellite images to estimate equilibrium line altitude variations could be a Surrogate for such analyses. Since late-summer snowlines of temperate glaciers coincide with the equilibrium line, we analyzed Five Landsat images spanning 1979-2003 and an ASTER-derived digital elevation model to reveal oscillations in the equilibrium line altitude (Delta Z(ELA)). The average ELAs range between 870 in and 1529 (+/- 29 m), with lower altitudes on the west side. Winter snow cover accumulation indicates higher elevations (relative to the glacier snout) of the transient snowlines in the west. Thus, one of the reasons for the higher retreating rates observed on the west side is that the lower part of the ablation area is likely exposed to year-round ablation. Glacier sensitivity to Delta Z(ELA) oscillations Would depend upon the topographic condition of the accumulation area (gentle or steep). In Outlet glaciers with gentle accumulation areas such as San Rafael and San Quintin, Delta Z(ELA) of up to 65 and 70 in at the central flow part and bare ice area variations &gt; 5 km(2) and &gt; 13 (+/- 0.6 km(2)) were observed, respectively.

    Bilchenok Glacier is a surging glacier in the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, which most recently surged in 1982 and is currently in its quiescent phase. Field research in 1998 revealed an ogive-like repeated pattern of transverse ridges and intervening gently sloping ice at the surface of the ablation area of this glacier. It was also observed that most of the glacial surface was covered by volcanic rocks and ash, and the debris thickness on the ridges was more than I in, whereas the gently sloping ice was covered by thin debris. We posit that the pattern of the debris thickness is caused by the unique conditions of Bilchenok Glacier, namely, the restricted position of its debris supply at the foot of the rock walls beside the icefall and its surging behavior. The distance between the ridges might indicate the total horizontal displacement attributable to surges. The dependence of the ablation rate on the debris thickness can result in a highly undulating ice surface between the ridge and the gently sloping ice. We estimate the effect of the debris thickness on the ice surface profile using a simple model and this model successfully predicts that high ice relief can be caused by different ablation rates in the debris cover thickness.

    To investigate the characteristics of ablation at Koryto Glacier, a mountain glacier under maritime climate in Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, we made field observations from August to early September 2000. At a site near the equilibrium line, the 31-day average net radiation, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux were 43, 59 and 31 W-2, respectively. We developed a new distributed ablation model, which only needs measurements of air temperature and global radiation at one site. Hourly ablation rates at this site obtained by the energy balance method are related to measured air temperature and global radiation by linear multiple regression. A different set of multiple regression coefficients is fitted for snow and ice surfaces. Better estimates of ablation rate can be obtained by this approach than by other temperature index models. These equations are then applied to each grid cell of a digital elevation model to estimate spatially distributed hourly melt. Air temperature is extrapolated using a constant temperature lapse rate and global radiation is distributed considering topographic effects. The model enables us to calculate the hourly spatial distribution of ablation rates within the glacier area and could well provide a realistic simulation of ablation over the whole glacier.

    The daily water balance for the drainage basin of Koryto Glacier, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, was calculated during the period from August to September 2000. The result shows that 14 x 10(6) m(3) of meltwater and 2 x 10(6) m(3) of rainwater entered the basin, while 26 x 10(6) m(3) of water drained from the basin through proglacial streams. Thus, about -9 x 10(6) m(3) of water storage reduction occurred in the basin. Vertical displacements of the glacier surface showed that the volume change due to contraction of subglacial cavities was nearly 20% of the total storage change. The remaining fraction of water storage during the period is thought to be stored in englacial and supraglacial locations. The estimate of water balance components in the early ablation season in 2000 indicates that meltwater was already stored within the glacier before the spring, even during the previous year, and that the stored water drained through the ablation season.

    Ice flow speeds were measured at Glaciar Soler in northern Patagonia during the middle of the melt season (November-December) in 1998 and compared to data from 1985. In 1998 the surface flow speed was greater at all survey points, yet the ice was about 40 m thinner; the greater melt rate in 1998 probably explains these differences because of the effect of melt rate on basal sliding speed. Multiday variations in surface speed were well correlated with daily variations in surface water input, which is the sum of melt rate and rainfall. Although the basal sliding speeds vary from place to place, we obtained similar linear relationships between basal sliding speed and surface water input. This result indicates the possibility of taking account of basal sliding as a function of surface water input.

    Ice-flow velocities were measured at Koryto glacier on Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, during a 37 day period in the middle of the 2000 melt season. Six survey points from the upper to the lower reaches of the glacier exhibited daily fluctuations in surface horizontal speed with major peaks that appeared at all points. We argue that basal motion is the major cause of flow on Koryto glacier. Downward vertical velocities measured over most of the glacier during the survey period are likely due to shrinking of englacial and subglacial cavities. This result may imply that a large amount of water is deposited in the early summer. Since 1960, Koryto glacier has retreated by 450 m and this retreat has accelerated following a decrease in winter precipitation after the mid 1970s. The glacier has thinned by 10-50 m during the last 40 years.

    Owing to severe rainfall on 11 and 12 July, 1995, a debris flow occurred and flowed down on the Shirouma-daisekkei snow patch, the Northern Japanese Alps. As a result, the snow patch was widely covered with debris flow deposits, the debris flow incised the snow patch, and a large-scale trench (1.3 km in length, 6-8 m in width, 10-20 m in depth) was formed. The trench was formed at the center of debris covered area, from the uppermost part to near the terminus of the snow patch. The width of the trench became more than 15 m on 18 October as a result of continuous snowmelt in summer and the area of the trench reached 20% of the entire snow patch area. Internal structures of the snow patch, such as firn aquifer and dirt layers which were composed of sand and gravel, were recognized on the side walls of this trench. However, no ice body was found on the side walls.&lt;BR&gt;Formation processes of this trench are discussed on the bases of distribution and shape of the trench and debris covered area which were obtained from aerial photographs and field observations. It is concluded that the trench was formed since the debris flow eroded firn layers. On this snow patch, the similar kind trench was also formed in 1952. In order to understand formation and maintenance processes of perennial snow patches, it must be important to evaluate such influences of debris flow on snow patches.

    草津白根山では, 近年の火山活動が湯釜火口周辺に限定されていた。2014年からは, 湯釜火口周辺で活動が高まり, 山体の膨張を伴う地震活動, 熱活動, 火山ガス成分の変化が観測され, 2年後には活動が終息した。一方で, 1500年間活動のなかった本白根山鏡池北火口で, 2018年1月23日に顕著な前駆的活動を伴わない水蒸気噴火が発生し, 人的な被害が生じた。この噴火を受けて2018年度, 2019年度に, 地震学・測地学・地球電磁気学・地球化学・地質学に渡る科研費研究が実施された。噴火に先立って前兆的な現象の有無について, それぞれの分野で検討がなされた。また水蒸気噴火後にマグマ噴火への移行の可能性もありモニタリング研究を継続したが, 現状では, 本白根火山鏡池北火口の再活動の兆しは見当たらない。一方, 草津白根山湯釜火口付近は, 2018年4月, 同9月, 2019年5月に傾斜変動を伴う地震活動が発生し, 再び活動的になってきている。

    山岳地域では,気象観測点がほとんど存在しないため,積雪観測データの空白域となっている.しかし,日本海沿岸から中部山岳は多雪地域であるため,積雪を介する災害のメカニズム解明や減災のためにも積雪水量を把握する事が重要である.本研究では,日本海沿岸から中部山岳において,降雪直後に積雪観測を実施し,雪氷化学的手法を用いた積雪水量の算出を試みた.積雪中の化学成分の鉛直プロファイルには,観測地点ごとに濃度の違いは見られるが,似通ったピーク形状を示していた.低気圧による降雪時には冬型の気圧配置時よりも北西の季節風が弱く,海塩起源の成分が運ばれないため,海塩起源の成分が低く推移していると考えられる.この特性を利用して南岸低気圧による降水の積雪水量と冬型の気圧配置による降水の積雪水量を算出した.各観測地点の積雪水量がどれだけの面積を代表するかは検討する必要はあるが,平野部から山間地の積雪水量を算出することができた.

    During spring melt season, infiltration of snowmelt- and precipitation-water toward a ground surface may induce geotechnical failures of slopes or natural disasters, as air temperature rises and/or solar radiation increases. In order to prevent to meet such kinds of disasters, our study aims at the settlement of basic concept for a train operation control. The field observation has performed for several years in Niigata-Prefecture. Based on these observation data, we propose two different models, which are the combinations of snowmelt- and percolation models and the analytical prediction model, to estimate outflow from the bottom of snowpack.

    In order to better understand the response of the glaciers in Kamchatka to a global climatic change, meteorological, hydrological and glaciological observations were carried out at Koryto Glacier in the Kronotsky Peninsula in July, 1996. We also made a preliminary shallow firn coring at an ice cap on the top of Ushkovsky Volcano, Kamchatka for the reconstruction of past climate over the region from July to August, 1996. The data taken in this expedition were reported.

    1. はじめに<BR> LGM には一つの氷体としてアンデス山脈南部を広く覆っていたパタゴニア氷原は,現在では北パタゴニア氷原と南パタゴニア氷原に分かれ,氷縁に分布する多数の溢流氷河を通じて急速に消耗しつつある (Aniya, 1992; Aniya et al., 1997).それに伴う 1944 年以降の排水の量は,海水準上昇の 3.6 % に相当すると見積もられている (Aniya, 1999).現在のパタゴニア氷原の総面積は 17,200 km2: (Aniya et al., 1996) であるが,これは南半球においては南極氷床に次ぐ値であることから,その変動の歴史や性質が注目される.本発表では,北パタゴニア氷原の北東縁に位置するエクスプロラドーレス氷河の前縁で 2004 年 12 月に行った現地調査の成果のうち,完新世後期の氷河の消長に関する新たな知見を報告する.<BR>2. 調査地域<BR> エクスプロラドーレス氷河は,パタゴニア最高峰のモンテ・サン・ヴァレンティン (3,910 m) の北斜面に源を持つ雪崩涵養型の溢流氷河であり,北北東方向に流下して本谷 (エクスプロラドーレス谷) 直前の高度約 200 m 付近にまで氷舌を伸ばしている.全長は約 30 km におよび,消耗域である氷河末端付近の約 2 km の範囲は概してデブリに覆われるハンモッキーな表面形態をなす.<BR> いっぽう氷河末端と本谷との間には,氷舌を取り巻く方向に連続する数列の堤防状地形が観察される.そのうち最外縁のものは,氷舌側での基底からリッジまでの比高が最大約 100 m で,約 4 km に渡ってほぼ連続して分布するターミナルモレーンである.いっぽう,その最外縁ターミナルモレーンと氷舌の間に分布する堤防状地形は,高さが 10 m未満で,リッジの連続は最大でも 50 m 程度のアイスコアードモレーンである.<BR>3. 完新世後期の末端変動に関連する年代試料<BR> 最外縁ターミナルモレーンを構成している砂礫層は,氷河下流方向に傾斜する層構造を持ち,その構造に沿って多数の木片を挟在している.これらの事実は,かつてのエクスプロラドーレス氷河の末端が前縁の植生帯に突っ込み,植物を巻き込みながら最外縁ターミナルモレーンを形成したことを意味する.本研究では,それら木片のうち,モレーンの基部付近と最上部付近のものを含む計 7 つを採取し,さらにアイスコアードモレーン中からも 3 つの木片を得た.それら年代試料によって,最外縁ターミナルモレーンを形成した氷体が,その位置で活動的に存在していた時期と消耗に転じた時期などを議論できるであろう.木片の炭素放射年代は現在測定中であるが,パタゴニア氷原から溢流する他の氷河に関して知られている 3,600 yr BP (I),2,200 yr BP (II),1,600 _-_ 900 yr BP (III) そして小氷期 (IV) の氷河前進 (Aniya and Naruse, 1999) が,エクスプロラドーレス氷河に関しても認められるのか否かが興味深い.<BR> ところで最外縁ターミナルモレーンの構成層中の礫は,主に角礫_から_亜円礫であるが,10 % 程度の割合で高円磨度の礫を含んでいる.このことはエクスプロラドーレス氷河が,最外縁ターミナルモレーンを形成するよりも前に,分布域を大きく縮小していたことを示唆しているのかもしれない.<BR> 当日の発表では,採取した木片の C14 年代を示しつつエクスプロラドーレス氷河の完新世後期の末端変動を論じる.<BR>参考文献<BR>Aniya, M.     1. はじめに 近年の環境変動に伴う海面上昇の実態解明は緊喫の課題となっている.南半球においては南極氷床に次ぐ17,200 km2: (Aniya et al., 1996)を占めるパタゴニア氷原からの排水量は1944 年以降の海水準上昇の 3.6 % に相当すると見積もられており (Aniya, 1999),氷河面積に比して寄与率が高い.しかし,パタゴニア氷原の氷河変動に関する知見は十分に蓄積されていない. 演者らは,2003年12月からパタゴニア北氷原の北東縁に位置するエクスプロラドーレス氷河において氷河環境の実態解明の一環として,流動速度の観測を行っている(澤柿ほか,2004).本発表では 2004 年 12 月に行った現地調査の成果を報告し,流動特性の規定要因を検討する.エクスプロラドーレス氷河は雪崩涵養型の溢流氷河であり,SanValentin山 (3,910 m) の北斜面から北北東方向に流下し,高度約 200 m 付近に達する.全長は約 30 km,氷河末端付近の約 2 kmは起伏に富むデブリ域となる.2. 観測2003年12月に氷河上のデブリに設置した流動観測点(G1_から_G6)のうち,2004年12月にはG1を除く5点が確認された.G1は拡大した池に水没したものと思われる.また,G4は横転しており,岩の側面に改めて測点を設置した.G2_から_G6については2003/04の年間流動速度を算出した.位置の測定は一周波(L1)のGPS干渉測位により,Fix解を得た.ただし,2003年と2004年の測量基点は異なり独立に単独測位を行っている.また,2004年にはこの他に7カ所の短期流動観測点を氷河上に設置するとともに,流動観測点における表面融解量の測定,氷河上および氷河末端における気象観測を同期して行っている.3. 流動速度G2_から_G6のそれぞれについて複数回の測位を行い,短期流動速度を算出した.2003年の観測期間とほぼ同じ時期であり,気温観測結果(未公表)から,融解進行期であることが確認された.04年では03年の短期流動速度(表:澤柿ほか,2004を改訂)と比べ,G4を除き速度が増加している.短期流動速度の差の規定要因については,融解量,気象観測結果と合わせ検討を進め,当日報告する.さらに年間流動を算出した.消耗域末端付近のデブリ域(G2,G3)においては50_から_60m,中流部の裸氷域(G4_から_G6)では100_から_150mの流動が確認された(表).デブリ域と裸氷域の流動速度には差があり(図),デブリ域の起伏の形成に寄与していると推定される.

    In order to clarify the relationship between release of a glide avalanche and changes in physical properties of a snowpack in the starting zone, various observations were carried out on a steep slope in Oshirakawa, Uonuma City, Niigata. During the period between the onset of snow glide and the avalanche release in the winter of 2020/21, values measured with dielectric soil moisture probes which were installed into the lowest layer of the snowpack showed a sudden decrease followed by a large increase. In addition, specific electric conductivity of water in a small stream from the starting zone showed remarkable increase several hours before the avalanche release. These changes can be regarded as precursors of avalanche release. On the other hand, results of observations on tipping process of deciduous shrubs on the slope indicate that weather conditions in early winter also have a significant influence on snow glide and avalanche release.

    We investigated the surface avalanche at Mt. Nasu on 27 March, 2017, which killed 8 people including 7 high school students. We found that the weak layer causing the avalanche consisted of no-rimed fallen crystal associated with the cyclone system and heavy snowfall amount on the weak layer triggered the avalanche. Our statistical analyses indicated that the similar heavy snowfall events occur about one every 19 years in March. Using the avalanche dynamics model, we infered the starting point of the avalanche which could not be determined by the field observation. We also make the database of avalanche history in the area and developed the forecasting system of avalanche caused by the cyclone system.

    Snow-clad volcanoes have high hazard risks of snow-melt lahars caused by direct eruptions and rain-on-snow-triggered lahars during the snow-melt season after the eruptions. The research project deals with two active volcanoes (Mts. Azuma and Adatara) having thick snowpack during winter, and aims to reveal 1) snowpack characteristics such as altitudinal distribution of snow water equivalent and energy balance at the snow surface and 2) background characteristics of hydrology (discharge, water stage, and water quality) and sediment transport (suspended sediment concentration and turbidity) in rivers downstream of the volcanoes during a pre-eruptive (i.e. inter-eruptive) period.

    Due to change the horizontal place of generation and intensity of snowfalls by passing route of cyclones, it is difficult to understand the actual status of extreme snowfall phenomenon in the areas of the Pacific Ocean. In this study, spatio-temporal fluctuations of snow depth distribution were analyzed in a climatological context to assess the regional characteristics of snowfall amount and intensity after the cyclone passage the south coast of Japan. The result demonstrate the annual frequency of heavy snowfall varies depending on the areas, and the gradient of snow depth distribution of on the mountain tends to be smaller than those of the area facing the Sea of Japan.

    Surface snow is one of snow types on sliding layer of surface snow avalanches. It has been considered that surface hoar developed by supply of excess atmospheric vapor to radiation-cooled snow surface.
    This study revealed that greatly grown surface hoar, which could become sliding layer snow of surface snow avalanche, was formed by attaching of super-cooled droplets in super-cooled fog/cloud covering snow surface of newly fallen snow or lightly grown surface hoar, and that heavy snowfall just after developing surface hoar directly led to the release of surface snow avalanche. However, the successive combination of above two meteorological conditions was revealed to hardly occur under normal change of weather in actuality.

    (1) At Perito Moreno Glacier of the Southern Patagonia Icefield, we measured the glacier surface heights, glacier flow velocity, and calving speed, and long-term temperature at the upper reach.We drilled 510m boreholes with a hotwater drill.Three LIA advances in 15C, 17C and 19C were recognized. (2) The fan deltas distributed on the eastern side of the Northern Patagonia Icefield were investigated. Variations of 21 outlet glaciers of the NPI between 2004/5 and 2008/9 resulted in a total area loss of 5.8 km^2. (3) With the JAMSTEC's research ship [Mirai] we cored sea floor sediments at the offshore of the NPI.

    本研究課題に関するチリ・パタゴニア地域における現地調査を2007年5月と、10月の2度にわたって実施した。5月には北パタゴニア氷原エクスプロラドーレス氷河周辺において、2004年から測定を継続している気象・水文・土砂観測ステーションのメンテナンスとデータ回収を行なった。10月には、この地域最大の河川であるバケール川下流部Nadis地点に設置した、浮流土砂量モニタリングのための高濃度濁度計のメンテナンスとデータ回収、および浮流土砂のサンプリングを行なった。またエクスプロラドーレス氷河における観測ステーションのメンテナンスとデータ回収、および北パタゴニア氷原東側のLeones谷と、ステップ気候下にあるLaguna Chiguayに設置した雨量計のメンテナンスとデータ回収も併せて実施した。
    一方、これまでの観測によって得られたデータを用いて、エクスプロラドーレス氷河流域の水・土砂流出モデルを構築した。従来の氷河流出モデルでは、氷河内の流出システムにおける水理特性の季節変化を、季節的雪線の位置に応じてモデルに与える形式をとるものがほとんどであった。しかし、雪線位置の変化がほとんどないエクスプロラドーレス氷河の水理特性変化を組み込むために、本研究では「氷河への水の供給量の履歴」をパラメータとするモデリングを試みた。その結果、このモデルにより2005/06水文年の流量変化を通年にわたってよく再現できることが明らかになった。また、大気大循環モデル(NCEP-NCAR再解析)の気温・降水量データに統計的ダウンスケーリングを施すことによって、実測気象データを用いずによい流量の推定値が得られることを確認し、大気大循環モデルデータが得られる過去約50年間について、エクスプロラドーレス氷河流域からの水・土砂流出量の変動を再現した。
    このほか、「浮流土砂濃度の季節変化」や「氷河の表面熱収支に及ぼす天気パターンの影響」について解析を進め、パタゴニアの海洋性溢流氷河に特徴的な水文・気象特性とその変動に関する検討を進めている。
