    <p>Although field activities are considered to be effective in improving the ability of students to imagine the extent of a formation in space, there are a great many difficulties in conducting fieldwork in high school science classes. As an alternative, an indoor pseudo-fieldwork program for high school basic earth science classes has been developed to improve the ability of students to imagine the spatial extent of a formation. A worksheet designed to promote thinking by students about the lateral and vertical extents of a stratum after considering the geological information from plural outcrops was used in an indoor pseudo-fieldwork program activity. This activity was positively accepted by most students, indicating that it was effective in deepening their understanding of a spatial extent.</p>
