    本研究では、知的障害養護学校における小集団指導の授業改善を通じて、教室内の物理的環境設定が児童の課題遂行と逸脱行動に及ぼす効果、係設定の条件と指導手順について検討した。知的障害養護学校小学部6学年に在籍する児童5名を対象に、約9か月にわたって朝の会の授業改善を行った。おもな改善として、児童の机の設定や氏名カードの手がかり教材の配置を変更した。物理的環境設定を整えたうえで児童が遂行する係を順次導入した。その結果、小集団指導において物理的環境設定を改善することで児童の課題遂行は高まり逸脱行動は低減すること、物理的環境設定に基づく係の設定によって児童相互のやりとりを含む課題遂行機会が増加することが示唆された。また、児童が係を遂行できる条件として、指導者と児童とのやりとりで課題遂行できていた手がかり教材をそのまま使用する手続きが重要であることを示唆した。

    Study objective: The present study aimed to identify the most suitable intertrial interval (ITI) for one-on-one teaching of children with intellectual disabilities. Design: A reversal (B-A1-B-A2-B) design was used. Setting: The sessions were conducted in a room at a university. Participants: The 2 participants were an 8- and a 10-year-old male with intellectual disabilities. Independent Variable: Participants were exposed to 3 different intertrial interval conditions in 2 conditions, either high or low relative difficulty of matching task. During no-delay (ND) sessions, there was no delay between the participant's on-task response and the instructor's presentation of the teaching materials for the next trial. During count-3-delay (3D) and count-5-delay (5D) sessions, the instructor counted to 3 or 5 and then presented the teaching materials for the next trial. Measures: Per cent of on-task responses latencies less than 2 sec and per cent of off-task responses were measured. Results: For both boys, the per cent of on-task responses latencies less than 2 sec was almost higher in the no-delay condition than in the count-3-delay and count-5-delay conditions. Per cent of off-task responses was higher in the count-3-delay and count-5-delay conditions than in the no-delay condition. Conclusion: Effects of intertrial interval on on-task and off-task responses were confirmed experimentally with the 2 elementary-school-age boys with intellectual disabilities. We concluded that a no-delay (intertrial interval=0 seconds) condition is the most suitable for enhancing on-task responses and preventing off-task responses in children with intellectual disabilities.

    The present authors set up an "open classroom", called "the morning classroom", in order to support the learning of junior high school 8th- and 9th-grade students with learning difficulties. Any student in those grades could freely enter the morning classroom for study. The present research examined a teaching method for promoting setting up such classroom so that going to the classroom and having students study there would be easy for teachers to manage. Those who could use the morning classroom were all the students in the classroom, including those with learning difficulties. Ten teachers and 4 special support staff taught the students there. In the morning classroom, the teachers provided guidance to the 9th graders and their parents. The students worked on mathematics and social studies, using printed materials. The teachers reduced the number of questions in the materials in order to promote a sense of accomplishment in the students. The students checked their own work. The program continued for 11 months. It was found that, in addition to the students with learning difficulties, many students without learning difficulties also came to the morning classroom. The one-on-one teaching system appeared to promote the performance of the students with disabilities. The results of the present study suggested the importance of having teachers issue individual invitations to meetings with students and their parents, based on friendly relations with those people. The results also suggested that a reduction in the burden of the teachers contributed to the continuation of the open classroom.

    The present study evaluates effects of teachers' physical position on pupils' participation in music activities, and also on the children's remaining in their seats during class. Participants in the study were 5 children (ages 6 years 4 months to 7 years 3 months) with pervasive developmental disorders. The music activity was playing a percussion instrument with the hands and fingers. In Phase 1, the assistant teacher provided individual support to all of the children while standing behind them. In Phase 2, the assistant teacher provided individual support to a pupil who was having special difficulty, while standing behind the child. In Phase 3, the assistant teacher provided individual support to that child while standing in front of the child. In Phase 4, both the assistant teacher and the main teacher provided support to all the children, while standing in front of them. For 2 of the 5 participants, the percentage of correct responses on the percussion instrument was higher in Phase 3. The child who had special difficulty in participating had a low rate of being out of seat when the assistant teacher provided individual support to that child. On the other hand, 2 of the other participants had a high rate of leaving their seats when the assistant teacher was giving individual support to the child who was having special difficulty. These results suggest that the children's music activity was influenced by the location of the person teaching them, with the best results when the teacher was in front of the students and they could watch the teacher's model. Also, when the teacher was occupied with giving support to one child, the other children were more likely to leave their seats.

    Study Objectives: The present study aimed to teach children with autism tacts and approach behavior to listeners in non-training situations at school through the use of simulation training in their class. Design: Baseline, Intervention 1, and Intervention 2. Setting: The simulation training was conducted in a public elementary school during morning class meetings. The non-training situations at the school were as follows: at the beginning and end of the participants' 20-minute recess period, at the beginning and end of their lunch period, and at the time of their arrival in the morning. Participants: The participants were 2 boys with autism, 7 and 10 years old. Intervention: In Intervention 1, during the morning class meetings, the participants were taught a tact and an approach behavior in a situation that simulated the non-training situations. In Intervention 2, an antecedent procedure for increasing approach behavior to listeners that had been used in the tact simulation training was incorporated into the non-training situations. Measures: Occurrence of correct responses and single word tacts, and prompting level of approach behavior. Results: In Intervention 1, tacting increased, but approach behavior did not. In Intervention 2, approach behavior also increased. Conclusion: The results suggest that approach behavior to listeners is important for tacts, and point to the role of simulation training for identification of possibly effective aspects of interventions.

    We examined experimentally the relation with participant's engagement to the task arrangements and off-task behavior of children with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one teaching. Participants were 8 and 10-year-old male with off-task behavior during task situations. Within a reversal (ABAB) treatment design, participants were exposed to instructor-arrangement and participant-arrangement conditions. During instructor-arrangement Sessions, the Instructor implemented arrangements for the teaching materials in the set interval. During the participant-arrangement sessions, the participants implemented arrangements for the teaching materials in the set interval. The results indicated that two participants exhibited a high rates of off-seat behavior when the instructor performed arrangements for the teaching materials in the set interval. Two participants exhibited a similar rates of trial engagement and correct response across instructor-arrangement and participant-arrangement conditions. The findings suggested that eliminating the situation in which the participant waits for the set interval has become antecedent control for preventing the occurrence of off-task behavior in one-to-one teaching.

Measures: Per cent of response latencies less than 2 sec, number of trials per minute, and per cent of correct responding were measured. Results: For the 2 participants, the per cent of response latencies less than 2 sec was higher in the spontaneous-performance-by-participant condition than in the control-of-instruction-by-instructor condition. For 1 of the 2 participants, the number of trial performances per minute was higher in the spontaneous-performance-by-participant condition than in the control-of-instruction-by-instructor condition. Per cent of correct responding exhibited a similar level in the 2 conditions. Conclusion: The results suggest that presenting the teaching materials and instructions for the next trial after the completion of a participant's responding becomes an antecedent control for enhancing the responding latency in one-to-one teaching.

    We examined experimentally the relation between effects of choice-making on task engagement behavior and task preference level in two children with intellectual disabilities. Before the experiment, three higher (lower) preference tasks were identified for each participant via preference assessments. Tasks were employed while watching a television program. The experiment consisted of three phases using alternative treatment design in each situation in which participants engaged in a higher (lower) preference task. In the first phase, the experimenter chose a task (no-choice conditions). In the second phase, choice and yoked-no-choice conditions were implemented. During choice sessions, participant was allowed to choose a task. During yoked-no-choice sessions, the experimenter chose the same task chosen by the participant in the immediately preceding choice sessions. In the third phase, choice conditions were implemented. As a result, two participants exhibited similar rates of task engagement across three phases in a higher preference task situation. For one of two participants, rates of task engagement were higher when the participant (rather than the experimenter) choose a lower preference task in part of the second phase. The rates of task engagement were more controlled than the choice conditions by the task preference level.

    The present study examined procedures to promote peer interaction skills and cooperative learning among children with intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder in small group teaching. Results showed that the speaker’s approach using the iPad promoted the listener’s response in peer interaction. Also,when there is no listener’s response, the teach to modify approach for the speaker was shown to be effective. Moreover, the results suggested that Group-oriented Contingencies may promote the establishment of cooperative learning among peers.

    This study aim to develop the teacher training program for teachers of the special school and the regular class as utilization of the functional assessment approach to the student with behavior problems. At first year, a simple model functional assessment tool and the use manual to use it were made. And the next and the third year, the training program for teachers carried it out using them for two years. And were assessed of acquisition of the knowledge about the functional assessment of the teachers and the completeness of behavior support program planning to evaluate the effect of the teacher training program.
    As a result, the effects (before and after training and subsequent follow-up survey) of the training program was shown in all participation teachers.

    This study examined the effects of mothers’ feelings towards child rearing, empathy, perceived social support, and the child’s behavioral characteristics on their attitudes towards child rearing. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 195 mothers of children who required support training for elementary school. The factor analysis for the emotional scale for transition to elementary school yielded three factors. We then performed variance analysis on feelings towards child rearing, support, empathy, and children’s behavioral scores by combining high and low groups for responsiveness and control. The group with high responsiveness and control, had higher other-oriented responses and viewpoint acquisition, compared to groups with lower scores. Thus, mothers of children with developmental disorders were more likely to show controlling child-rearing attitudes, but also showed adaptiveness and tried to create a balance of control and responsiveness in this study.

    The present study examined team teaching in the small group teaching of the children with intellectual disabilities from the viewpoint of sub-teacher’s role and location. The results suggest that the children’s physical exercises performance was influenced by the location of the person teaching them, with the high performance when the sub-teacher was in front of the students and they could watch the teacher’s movement model. The procedures to promote the social interaction between children in the small group teaching were examined. As a result, the response of children decreased all at once by the social interaction opportunities of instructions. Also, instructions to announce previously, presentations of model, uses of iPad, and application of group contingency promoted the social interaction between children.

    The purpose of this study is to understand the placement and work contents of Special Needs Educational Assistants(Assistants) in regular classrooms, the cooperation between Assistants and teachers and the effects of Assistants. Samples in Study 1 were city boards of education in the whole of Japan, and subjects in Study 2 were pairs of Assistants and teachers in elementary school and junior high school of 29 cities. Both studies were conducted by sending the questionnaires. As a result, it is suggested that in 89. 3% of samples more than one Assistant was employed, and that in 90. 5% of samples Assistants are engaged in study supports and assistants for students.

    16年度は、知的障害児の一斉・小集団指導において、対象児の主体的な課題遂行を高める指導手続きや条件について、物理的環境の整備と対象児の課題遂行機会の増加に焦点を当て検討を行った。その結果、対象児が理解し易く動き易い指導者や対象児の位置、机や椅子の配置、課題遂行の手がかり(教材)といった物理的環境の整備が、対象児の課題遂行行動を高め逸脱行動の生起を低減させること、係・役割活動を設定することで対象児の課題遂行機会が増加することが明らかになった。しかし、対象児同士がやりとり(相互交渉)を行う係・役割活動では、彼らの知的障害に伴うコミュニケーションスキルの微弱さから、課題が残された。そこで、17年度では、一斉・小集団指導における係・役割活動の設定において、対象児同士のやりとり行動を高める指導手続きや条件を明らかにすることを目的とした。研究代表者と知的障害養護学校教諭が協同し、実際の授業改善を通じた実践研究を行った。期間は平成17年4月末から18年2月末であった。その間、研究代表者は定期的に授業観察を行い、授業改善のプロセスに積極的に関与し、実践の分析と改善に向けた提案を行った。学校教諭は授業計画の立案、実践を担当した。対象学級及び児童は、小学部4学年に在籍する男児4名、女児1名で、知的障害や自閉症の診断を受けていた。対象授業は、教育課程上「日常生活の指導」に位置づけられ年間を通して実施される「朝の会」で、指導者は担任教諭2名であった。定点観察の手法を用い、指導場面を1週間毎にビデオ録画し(計37セッション)分析対象とした。それをもとに、指導者が実際に行った手だてと児童の課題遂行行動の生起・非生起を記録した。その結果、係・役割活動において、児童同士がやりとり行動を高める指導手続きとして、児童が理解しやすく動線に配慮した物理的環境の整備を行った上で授業の大きな流れをつくること、児童個々のやりとり行動が確実に生起するようになったら、指導者の起点(着席位置)を児童から遠ざけ、指導者が言語・動作教示を遅延すること、視覚的な教材や物(絵や文字カード、指し棒など)の活用が効果的であることが示唆された。

    平成15年度は、平成14年度の研究結果を踏まえて、知的障害者の家庭における自己決定及び選択機会の実態に影響する子どもの要求言語レベルを高める要因を明らかにすること、生涯支援の観点から知的障害者の生活年齢と家庭における自己決定及び選択機会の実態との関連を明らかにすることを目的とした。新潟県J地域に居住する就学前から学校卒業後までの在宅知的障害者の養育者400名と就学前から小学校高学年までの健常児200名を対象に、縁故法による質問紙調査を実施した。知的障害者については関連する親の会や福祉施設を通じて、健常児については地域の子ども会を通じて、養育者に質問紙への回答を依頼した。調査内容は、日常の家庭におけるさまざまな自己決定及び選択機会の実態、子どもの要求言語レベルと生活年齢、子どもの要求言語レベルに関連する好みや活動レパートリーであった。分散分析と重回帰分析を主にしたデータの分析を行った結果、知的障害者においても、健常児においても、子どもの好みが明確で、活動参加のレパートリーが多い場面や機会で、自己決定及び選択機会が増加する傾向にあること、知的障害者においては子どもの生活年齢の高低と家庭における自己決定及び選択機会の実態との関連は明確に認められないこと、一方で、食事などの特定の場面や機会では、子どもの要求言語レベルは低くても生活年齢の増加に応じて、自己決定及び選択機会が増加する傾向にあることが明らかになった。
