    During the storage of celluloid pictures for animation films over half a century, an interleave paper adhered to acrylic paint. The purpose of this study is to establish a methodology to cleanly remove the paper from the paint. A layered film, a replica of the celluloid pictures, adhered with paper was prepared and immersed in water or ethanol. The effect of these solvents on the peeling behavior was investigated using a peel test. The maximum peel force for the dry layered film in was distributed at ~0.5 N, independently of the peel speed. The peel force was significantly reduced after the layered film was immersed in pure water or ethanol. A morphological observation revealed that the dry paper was peeled off via the cohesive failure of the paper. After the layered film was immersed in pure water, the paper was also peeled off via cohesive failure. The layered film immersed in ethanol was peeled off at the paper/paint interface. To clear the effect of the volume change in the paint on peel behavior, the relative volume was determined via image analysis. The relative volume of paint was 1.56 in pure water and 1.37 in ethanol. It can be considered that the large difference in the volume of paint induces a large shear stress at the paint/paper interface.

    In the 1990s, Japanese anime sophisticated both the visual and voice databases for character creation. These two databases usually cooperate in a complementary manner in order to construct characters in the audio-visual medium. However, there is still always the possibility that they operate inconsistently. And sometimes, a brand-new character type is born from the inconsistent and varying combinations of the visual and voice databases. An outstanding example of the phenomenon is Haruka Tenou, one of the most popular characters in the TV series Sailor Moon (1992–97). In contrast to the otaku consumption suggested by Hiroki Azuma, feminist alternative readings of the work have been activated by the “queer” Haruka and her successors. These inconsitently animated and dubbed characters have been cues for the alternative possibilities of gender and sexuality.

    From the beginning of the 1940s, Italian cinema critics have called the commercial films produced under the fascist regime "white telephones". This specific term indicates the white and brilliant visual texture many popular films shared in those days. This visual texture originated in the Hollywood cinema, which dominated the world market including Italian one. Italian cinema industries tried to assimilate a Hollywood-like production to overcome the long-lasting crisis from the 1920s. As a result, Italian screens were covered with white shining lights. This paper aims to reveal the significance of the "white" vision in the Italian cotemporary culture, focusing on the properties of cinema, namely the expressive medium of light and the most powerful economic system of the last century. From this point of view, we can discover another aspect of the first talky colonial film, Lo squadrone bianco, which is renowned for a fascist propaganda.

    La nave bianca (1941), il primo lungometraggio di Roberto Rossellini, Viene considerato come una delle origini del neorealismo che e il movimento cinematografico del secondo dopoguerra, anche se il Centro ministero navale lo produsse con l'intenzione della pubblicita per le armi navali. Perche questo film venne prodotto nella maniera che assomiglia a quella del neorealismo (attori non professionali, filmare all' esterni, racconti reali) e la scena della battaglia navale e molto diversa dalla retorica propagandistica. Per o dal punto di vista del suo effetto e del suo significato, ha il carattere assolutamente diverso da neorealismo, infatti e la propaganda eccellente. Usando la strategia di low politics come l'immagine di Elena, una infermiera volontaria, e il racconto d'amore tra lei e Basso, un soldato ferito, questo film pote avvicinarsi agli spettatori e trasmettere il messaggio fascistico piu efficacemente che urlare l'ideologia fascistica. In questo saggio, provo a analizzare la sua mise-en-scene e mettere a fuoco il nuovo problema nell'opera di Rossellini che si cela sotto i discorsi d' auteur, cioe la relazione tra l'immagine delle donne e l'ideologia.

    <p>Vittorio De Sica era il divo piu popolare nel periodo fascista, chiamato il ventennio nero, e noto anche come l'epoca dei "telefoni bianchi nella storia del cinema italiano. In questo saggio, esaminero i vari discorsi cinematografici da High politics (politico, economico) a Low politics (film comici, riviste cinematografiche, pubblicita dei film), mettendo a fuoco un attore-regista ossia De Sica; infatti suppongo che attorno alla sua presenza sullo schermo ci sia la possibilita di rileggere la realta' della cultura di regime. L'esordio di De Sica come attore cinematografico fu "Il processo Clemenceau" nel 1918. Ma, prima di avere successo nel cinema, la sua carriera prese avvio nel teatro. La spinta alla celebrita come attore cinematografico avvenne con il ruolo di Bruno in Gli uomini, che mascalzoni ! di Mario Camerini (1932), dove canto Parlami d' amore, Mariu. L'anno 1932 fu decisivo per De Sica, oltre a raggiungere la celebrita, nella parte di Bruno ottenne anche il suo carattere di "gran bravo figlio italiano" (la sua occupazione era quella di modesto autista), che mantenne come sua immagine durante tutti gli anni trenta. Ma non dimentichiamo che un altro carattere, l'uomo galante di alta borghesia, nacque da Due cuori felici di Baldassare Negroni dello stesso anno in cui recito Mr. Brown. De Sica fu bravo in entrambi i diversi caratteri:proprio per questo e, rispetto agli altri attori contemporanei, figura piu significativa e piu complessa ad esempio di Amedeo Nazzari, che interpreto esclusivamente protagonisti eroici. L' industria cinematografica produsse una grande quantita di commedie che i critici battezzarono "telefoni bianchi". Ma cosa era esattamente il genere dei "telefoni bianchi"? In verita questo nome non indica un genere in senso stretto hollywoodiano, ma piu correttamente si tratta di un termine che la critica comincio a usare dalla meta degli anni trenta. L'espressione "telefoni bianchi" indicava tutti quei film commedia nei quali compariva una scenografia in stile art deco realizzata in modo che un telefono bianco brillasse. I protagonisti abitavano in saloni lussosi, indossavano abiti alla moda, guidavano l'automobile e parlavano ai "telefoni bianchi". Percio in questo tipo di film, lo schermo divenne la vetrina dove furono esposte le merci. Certamente il mondo dei "telefoni bianchi" esisteva solo sullo schermo e fu lontanissimo dalla realta quotidiana degli spettatori contemporanei. Per questo i critici neorealistici del dopoguerra lo criticarono violentemente, la denominazione "telefoni bianchi" divento il simbolo della falsita del Regime. Anche adesso la maggior parte degli studiosi ritiene che gli spettatori dei "telefoni bianchi" fuggivano nel mondo di sogno dello schermo per dimenticare la loro vita oppressiva sotto la dittatura. Tuttavia dobbiamo acutamente esaminare la fruizione del pubblico. Nonostante il mondo artificiale di "telefoni bianchi" fosse evasivo, e pericoloso concludere immediatamente che gli spettatori lo accettassero senza riserva, privi di spirito critico. Supongo che la comunicazione tra il pubblico e questo mezzo non sia stata cosi omogenea come gli studiosi pensano. Per analizzare il loro rapporto con il cinema esistono due opere fondamentali, il signor Max di Camerini (1937) e Daro un milione dello stesso regista, in cui De Sica recito i due caratteri simultaneamente. In queste due commedie, De Sica viola il confine di due ceti (piccola-media borghesia e alta borghesia ne il signor Max, lumpen proletariato e un miliardario in Daro un milione), oscillando tra "un bravo figlio" e "un uomo galante". In queste due opere De Sica ci mostra due forme di metamorfosi, e attraverso le quali ispira agli spettatori i vari tipi di comunicazione attiva e complessa, in</p><p>(View PDF for the rest of the abstract.)</p>

    研究代表者は、2019年8月5日から9月23日まで、シンガポールにおいて、1990年代におけるアニメ作品における音声の現地化とその受容についてのインタビュー調査と文献調査を行った。インタビュー対象者は、現地のアニメ・マンガ批評誌等に寄稿する批評家、アニメスタジオの経営者、日本の出版社の現地法人マンガ翻訳部門担当者、またアニメーション制作を学ぶ芸術大学の学生であった。
    現地調査から、英語、中国語、マレー語、タミル語を公用語とする多言語国家シンガポール独自の音声の現地化の状況が判明した。人口の約75パーセントを中国系住民が占めているため、シンガポール独自の字幕制作や吹き替えが行われることは稀であり、台湾および香港で制作された中国語版が流通してきた。国家を超えたネットワークである中国語圏におけるアニメの受容は、2018年に調査を行った韓国では現地声優による韓国語吹替版が精力的に制作されてきたこととは対照的である。今後の課題として、多言語共同体と単一言語共同体における音声の現地化の比較分析が発見された。
    9月13日にLASALLE College of the Artsにて、1990年代アニメにおける声の演出とその受容について講義を行い、その後シンガポール大学の日本大衆文化研究者と討議し、東南アジアにおけるアニメ受容に関する意見交換を行った。
    当初計画においては、2019年度は中国語吹替版の発信地とみなされる台湾において調査を行う予定であったが、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大のため、渡航調査ができなかった。2020年度に改めて渡航を計画するか、オンラインでの調査の可能性を模索している。
    研究分担者は、2018年度に引き続き、音声の現地化を含む韓国と日本のアニメスタジオで行われた合作実態解明について調査を行ない、シンガポールの事例との比較検討を進めている。

    Conducted with the Watanabe Collection whose materials were kept by Watanabe Hideo involved in anime productions for a long time, this research project presented findings through archiving and digitalizing the Collection as well as creating its metadata, while examining the storyboards and other raw/intermediate materials in a demonstrative and interdisciplinary approach, by sharing and collaborating them with scholars in Japan and abroad. These research activities led to clarifying material realities of anime productions, elucidating the creating processes of anime works, and further starting a chemical examination for the conservation of cel drawings. In an attempt to utilize the archived materials and share the research findings, talk events and exhibitions for scholars and general public were held at home and abroad, thereby expanding and deepening their attention to and understanding of the project’s subject.

    First, the system of Niigata MALUI Regional Database was partly updated, to which about 50,000 images has been uploaded. Second, as the research report of our project, Harada Kenichi and Mizushima Hisamitsu edited and published in March 2018 Hands, Feet, Eyes, and Ears: Practices and Studies on the Regional Image Archives. The anthology contains 20 chapters, 13 of which were written by the principal/co-investigators of our project and 7 of which by researchers who had delivered papers in our workshops. Third, in order to return our research achievements to the regional society, special exhibition Portraits of the Village IV was held from December 2017 to January 2018 in Niigata and Kaneyama.

    In the beginning of the 21st century when CGI is refining, we come to realize that live-action cinema and animation, which have been regarded as completely different genres, fuse each other and both of them constitute equally “moving picture”. And the mixture of live-action cinema and animation intensifies in actor’s body in such a digital technological environment. This research investigates how actor's body is visually and auditorily embodied in live-action cinema. Actor’s invisible body wearing CGI costume in live-action cinema approximates to voice actor's invisible body in animation. At the same time, the spectator develops a new attitude for the actor's new status, enjoying their voice.

    The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of CGI on the spectacle films in the early 21th century, focusing on Motion-capture which fuses the photorealistic images with CGI. The following results were obtained. 1. The origin of Motion-capture is found in the 1880s. 2. CGI is not a strange technology to the narrative cinema, but it is constituent of its mise-en-scene. 3. The narrative cinema based on the photorealistic images is only one aspect of moving pictures. A further direction of this study will be to investigate the representation of the actors wearing CGI and its impact on the narrative.
